Rest

Are you tired? Would you like to get under the covers and settle into a long, deep sleep? How nice that would be. In your bed, dreaming away. Warm. Cozy. Being physically renewed and re-energized. It is so important that our bodies find rest.   God knows this is true, and the Bible contains verses which stress the importance of physical rest.   Yet, the much greater emphasis in God’s Word is on finding rest and renewal in Him.   How are you doing with that type of rest?  Are you resting in Him? Are you being renewed by Him?   Here is what happens when someone rests in God:     29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the Lord, will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. – Isaiah 40:29-31   How does that sound?   Strength for the weary? That sounds good Increased power? We need that. Not growing weary? That sounds awesome. Feeling like we are soaring? More of that please.   But how do we get these things. How do we find rest and renewal in God?     He gives us the answer. One word. Hope.   Do you need hope? Is worrying over something exhausting you? Have you become hopeless because you have been trying to fix a problem, but are getting nowhere? Are you just stumbling through your days because you have grown so tired?   Where is your hope? Or, perhaps a better question is, “In who is your hope?”   God does not want you to go through your days carrying the weight of everything on your shoulders. He wants to help you soar, but this is not going to come by you putting your hope in yourself. Nope. Do that and you will drop to the ground like a lead weight.   He invites you to find His rest by hoping in Him.   Notice, that God’s Word doesn’t say that He will take all of your problems away. It just says that as you hope in God and acknowledge who He is, you will find strength, and you will rest from carrying all that weight you have been lugging around.   He will carry your baggage for you.   Hope in Him and find rest.     For Him,   Rob
