Are You a Praise Leader?

“My people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth with a parable; I will utter hidden things, things from of old— things we have heard and known, things our ancestors have told us. We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done. He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands.”  – Psalm 78 (italics and bold mine)   It would seem the psalmist can’t be quiet. His heart is too full. There is much to share, and it is bursting out of him. His God must be exalted. Generations must not be allowed to pass without hearing about God. He has been charged, and now he is charging us.   What is at stake? That people would trust in God.   He sees himself as a praise-leader. As God is shared, praise will come forth. Yet, as we consider the Psalm, this is not the agenda or command of a mere man or a group of people, for the psalmist says, “he (God) commanded our ancestors to teach their children”. Clearly God cares about His namesake. Clearly he cares about our children. He yearns for new generations to know Him.   What is our role? It is to speak the “praiseworthy deeds of the Lord”. The baton has been passed to us and now we must pass it to others. The good news is that we don’t have to come up with what to say. The Scriptures record God’s praiseworthy deeds. All we must do is recite them, especially to children. This is why I am so thankful for every Sunday school teacher who works with them. They have received the charge and are fulfilling it.   The truth is that you are not required to be a teacher or a pastor or a church leader to share the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord. You just need to know them and offer them to others in an act of praise.   Just imagine. Your faithful teaching of God’s Word may impact generations to come. To God be the glory how He allows us to share His truth. How gracious. How important.   For Him,   Rob
