Charting a Course: Where to from here? Part Four

We’ve seen that wisdom is not a quick fix or formula, not even God whispering the next steps in our ear. We’ve renounced complacency, and committed to the Map and Compass.

Now what? How do we actually begin navigation, finding our way from where we are to where we need to go? Wisdom is a big, layered idea, too complex for a short definition, but we can identify its qualities:

Curiosity: Wisdom is humble, and eager to learn. Proverbs 11:2
Courage: Wisdom is bold, unafraid of calamity. Proverbs 3:23-26
Creativity: Wisdom innovates, seizing opportunity. Proverbs 31:13-19
Correction: Wisdom adapts quickly when things change. Proverbs 9:6, 9
Community: Wisdom networks, planning with others. Proverbs 15:22
Confidence: Wisdom uses God’s Map, walking in faith. Psalm 111:10
Christ: Wisdom is incarnate in Jesus, our Compass. 1 Corinthians 1:30

So, to be wise is to forsake complacency and seek instruction. Then:
Question humbly, act boldly, respond creatively,
change aptly, learn together, trust God, and follow Jesus.

That is quite a list, yes? Equipped like this, we can be confident and hopeful rather than paralyzed by fear, trembling about tomorrow.

But Solomon proved that having wisdom is not enough. We must develop a heart for it (Proverbs 4:23), and see that acting wisely is merely returning God’s love. Jesus proved God’s great love for us, so we can trust Him to see us through any situation or trial. Now, will we?

He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all, how will
He not also with Him graciously give us all things? Romans 8:32

“Father, open our eyes to your great love for us in Jesus. Amen.”
