Sometimes when we talk about people who have a positive and pleasant disposition, we say, “They have a glow about them.” Well, when it comes to Moses, we can say that he certainly had a glow about him, but it wasn’t because of his disposition.
For Exodus 34 tells us that after he met with God and received the second set of tablets with the Ten Commandments on them, he worshiped God. And when Moses came down from Mt. Sinai “his face shone because he had been talking with God” (Exodus 34:29b). So much so that the people became afraid to come near him. So, Moses wore a veil when speaking with them.
That is quite a glow!
So, lest we pass over it too quickly, Moses “face shone because he had been talking with God.”
So, what about us? Can our faces glow like Moses? Well, no. Because Moses had a special encounter with God, and God caused his face to glow.
However, we can (and should) have a glow about us when we spend time with God. Especially after times of prayer and reading the Bible. For when we do these things we should be rejoicing in who God is, including that He is a gracious and merciful God who loves us deeply, has forgiven all our sins, and graciously meets with us through prayer.
But, for our faces to glow regularly, we must spend time with God daily. And might I suggest several times a day? Because then, if our hearts are right, He will transform us from our sometimes grumpy, judgmental, prideful, complaining selves (sorry, but that is often who we are outside of the work of the Holy Spirit in us), into people who are loving, kind, generous, compassionate, and filled with joy over Him who has blessed us with “every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 1:3 ESV). And it is this joy that will cause us to glow!
And, by God’s grace, our “glow” will be so beautiful that those who don’t know Christ will notice it and ask us about it. And then we can tell them about our great God, and what He has done for us and so many others. And what He can do for them!
So, is your face glowing? If it is, praise God, for He is shining through you! And if it is not, don’t lose hope! Keep spending time with your great God and soaking in His Word. And ask Him to give you a glow that is in line with how wonderful He is!
In Christ’s Love,
