Legacy

You don’t know me.

I was before your time.

Perhaps you know the legacy that I left behind?

I sat in the pew where you sit each week.

I sought the same God that you now seek.

I served with a passion, and involved myself with much.

By God’s grace, lives I did touch.

I taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and worked VBS.

Showed up on work days, assembled bulletins, and helped as I knew best.

I sat on committees, prayed for the brethren, and visited the weak.

I helped out on food drives, wrote missionaries, and was one of the meek.

Then I became old, my best years behind me.

Now when you look, you can no longer find me.

I hope though that you can still hear my voice.

I have a message. You have a choice.

You can sit in the pew and come and go as you please

Or you can serve with a passion, and draw power on your knees.

The church you are in now has been upheld by God’s hand.

Yet, He uses us to allow it to stand.

One day you will grow old and then you’ll be gone too.

So count your days and serve The Lord, before your time is through.

The blessing of this church you enjoy did not just appear.

It came through the hands of many, who served many a year.
