There is a saying in the business community that “Your organization is perfectly designed to get the results that it is getting.” The idea, of course, is that if you want different results, you have to organize differently and/or use different methods.
The problem is that we often achieve results that were never intended or “designed” at all. And that is the value of the saying in the first place. When things happen you didn’t expect, you must admit that your system produced them.
All of this sounds a lot like the Bible’s “Law of Sowing and Reaping,” doesn’t it? Our present COVID Crisis is a case study in this principle, and we don’t want to miss the lesson here.
Just as all of the good-faith measures to keep us from catching a dangerous illness have cost jobs and untold economic devastation, every action can have staggering unforeseen consequences.
Doing the wrong thing may create a horror beyond your imagination. And a good deed may have effects you never would have dreamed, delighting you and blessing many.
Truth is, we have no control over the consequences of our actions, good or bad, but we have total control of our actions, and that is the reason always to walk in the Spirit rather than the flesh. Galatians 5:16
“Father, lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Help us stay close to You today, and keep in step with your Spirit within us. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.”
