Pastor Rob Ladonne,

“God is the author of life so it is no surprise that much of life prompts us to think about Him. In the writings below you will find references to every day experiences that have brought my faith into focus. I hope these writings encourage
you to have a deeper faith in God.”

When I was young. . . .

When I was young, I always marveled at how “old” old people were, and now I am fast approaching becoming one of them. When I was young, I imagined a thousand different futures for myself, and now I see that the choices narrow with each passing year.

“Hello…hello…this is an emergency!”

Recently I was reading the story of an elderly couple who called 9-1-1. When the officer on the other end of the call picked up the phone, he learned that that “emergency” was that the elderly couple felt lonely.

The light of the world

It is dark. A switch is flicked. A house is illuminated with hundreds of lights of different colors.

An old woman struggles to carry her possessions into the passenger car of a train. Suddenly the friendly face of a stranger appears, and the warm invitation is heard, “May I help you?”.

A Correctional Officer with a typically stern face and few words passes a man in a maximum security prison. Eye contact is made just before the Officers emotionless face turns warm. “Merry Christmas” is heard and both parties go their own way.

Can you hear me now?

In past years a cell phone provider used a commercial to tap into a frustrating experience that most of us have been subject to. In the commercial an actor was portrayed frantically moving around while talking with someone on their cellphone and repeatedly asking the question, “Can you hear me now? Can you hear me now?”.

Driving with Grace

So….you have been in a long line of cars for about four minutes because traffic is heavy. Then, in your rear view mirror you see a car speeding along on the shoulder of the road, passing hundreds of cars and heading right for that tiny space in front of you between you and the next car.

Mirror, Mirror, What do you see?

Can you guess who this is?

Well it all has to do with an experience I had this week during the early morning. I was in front of a mirror and for some reason I just studied my appearance.

I just can’t get at what the problem is.

I don’t know how many of you are Star Trek fans, but out of all the different series that were released I was always most partial to “The Next Generation”. In particular I always enjoyed a character on that show call “Data” who was an Android (no….not like your phone’s operating system) who was always striving to understand and become more human.

I wouldn’t be caught dead living for myself

Recently, I was reading a letter from one of the missionaries we support…

I hope you make a practice of doing the same because in the correspondence of

missionaries you will find:

  • to live for God and press on in your faith
  • An opportunity to pray for a saint and consider how you might support them.
  • A view of how God is moving in the world.
  • Great inspirational stories from foreign lands…and much more.

I would rather be bitter. . .or, not!

Hey, I have a question for you and I want you to give an honest answer, okay? Doesn’t it feel good to be bitter? Doesn’t it seem almost natural? How can you say that Rob? Oh, come on, you know what I’m talking about! When you feel bitter and you are getting ready to express it you almost feel … powerful!

I have had it with. . .Part 2!

In last week’s e-mail I spent some time inviting those who would dismiss Christ based upon their view of Christians to stare squarely into the face of Jesus Christ and answer the question, “Who is Jesus to you?” (see e-mail below for reference). Today, however, I want to spend some time addressing anyone who is a Christian (myself included) by saying, “You are being watched” (creepy sounding…isn’t it?).
