The Last Days!  What happens next?                                     Life Lessons from Four Apostles             Jesus will return: Relief is on the way! Prayer and Thanks to God who is Merciful and Just. 2 Thessalonians 1:1-12               A few months after his first letter, Paul pens another to the Thessalonians, who remain faithful in persecution. He reminds them of the principles and particulars of Jesus’ return: On the very day Jesus returns, He will bring relief to His people and retribution to His enemies, i.,e, all who have rejected Him and His offer of grace in the gospel. So a believer’s obedience is contrasted to the unbeliever’s disobedience, and each is rewarded in kind for the choice.

The Last Days! What happens next?   Life Lessons from Four Apostles             In the Mean Time. . . Or, Six Principles to Practice While Waiting for Jesus 1 Thessalonians 5:12-28               Paul has encouraged his readers to stay strong in the face of persecution and comforted them in their trials and losses. Most of all, he has assured them of Christ’s return. Which will happen. For sure. But maybe not right away. So, what now? How do we please God while waiting for His Son?

When Christ Returns Will all believers share in God’s Kingdom blessings? 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
    By: (All)
As the Apostle Paul encourages us to look past our present trials and forward to the return of Jesus, a question comes to mind: What happens if I die before He returns? Will I miss out? And what about those who already have died before us? Will they not share in the glories of Christ’s Kingdom?

The Last Days!  What happens next?   Life Lessons from Four Apostles   Pleasing God How should we live as we await Christ’s Return? 1 Thessalonians 4:1-12               In his book, What’s Wrong With the World?,”  G. K. Chesterton wrote, “The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting, but found difficult, and left untried.” Those words could have been written yesterday, for they perfectly describe our generation. Paul wants believers not to be ashamed to face the Lord when He returns, and so he reminds them of His teaching on how to please God. The directions are not unclear, often, just untried.

What should characterize those who lead God’s People? 1 Thessalonians 2:17–3:1
    By: (All)
Paul has thanked God for the Thessalonians and their faith. Now he reveals his heart. Three qualities define God’s faithful shepherd:   Love: A relentless, joyful, sacrificial passion to help others win their necessary spiritual battle with suffering.  2:17–3:5               Paul’s passion is difficult to characterize, even more difficult to imitate. First, the urgency: “heart, eagerly, desire, wanted, glory, joy, bear.” Then, the reality: Suffering at the hands of God’s enemies is the believer’s destiny. Third, the priority: The will to overcome any and all obstacle to build into lives just because they matter. Finally, the dimension: the battle is not with people but for people against Satan. People and their spiritual well-being ARE the joy and reward for ministry.

The Last Days!  What happens next?   Life Lessons from Four Apostles   Faith: The Fruit of Christ-Centered Ministry What is the “new normal” for those who follow Jesus? 1 Thessalonians 2:13-16               Paul has thanked God for the Thessalonians (1:2) and now he thanks God for their faith. Paul has told us that his ministry among them was a success (2:1), and why (2:2-12): because His message was bold, his motives pure, his methods compassionate and his model (example) authentic. But what was the end of Paul’s labor? Joy-producing, courageous faith that God rewards.

Making a Lasting Difference What are the essentials of a God-glorifying ministry? 1 Thessalonians 2:1-12   Any enterprise tends to take on the attitudes and structures of the surrounding culture. Churches in Africa are unlike churches in South America, just as businesses in India are different from those in Canada. But what are the key ingredients to any ministry, church, or family, which seeks to please God and advance His Kingdom? Paul answers that question here. . .

The Last Days! What happens next?   Life Lessons from Four Apostles   Working, Witnessing, Waiting. . . and Suffering A Church Majoring in Faith, Hope, and Love 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10   When the evidences of God’s spirit are clear. . . (vv. 1-3)               Paul gives thanks for these believers because he sees the effects of conversion in them. In spite of great opposition and persecution, their faith produced works motivated by love, a reality that was kept alive because of the conviction of hope they had in Jesus. He had saved them, and now they were living in the promise of His return. This is not the hope of wishful thinking, but full conviction that God will keep His promises both now and in the future. See Hebrews 6:10-12.
